Spring Break 2009-Moab
We took a trip to Moab for a few days with the Pierce family. Since we aren't mountain bikers I wasn't quite sure if we were welcome there but we had a fabulous time anyhow. As you can seem, we did wish that Utah would figure out it is spring already because it was a bit chilly. But the kids had a blast. We arrived late Monday and swam in what the kids called the "Cold Tub", and Tuesday we took a 4 mile hike up Negro Bill Canyon. I can't believe what a fabulous hiker Clayton is, he out hiked all of us. Since we were leaving on Wednesday the kids really wanted to hike up to Delicate Arch, another 3 mile hike. You know that hike is a heck of a lot easier when it isn't blazing hot. I couldn't believe we had already made it to the top when we did.
Jennica loved the hikes. She would just keep going and going and never complained. Jocelyn on the other hand would play the game for the first hour, but after that it was time to move onto better things. I love the way that Jocelyn squats when she sits down. Those girls are so dang cute! It was fun getting a chance to be around girls for a change.
Maisy loved the backpack. Can't you tell? It took a bit to get used to at first but then she was a delight and loved being on her Daddy's back.
Negro Bill Canyon is a beautiful hike, and we didn't really look at the length of the hike until we made it back to the car. 2 miles each way was a bit long for the girls. But I have to say they made it just about 2/3 of the way to the end before deciding to turn back. My boys being boys of course were way ahead of us, and the girls kept saying "Let's get to our friends! Where are our friends? They are just soooo fast!"
This is our tribute to Chevy Chase in National Lampoon's Vacation. You know the part when they get out of the car to look at the Grand Canyon before he whisks them off. We felt like that when we made it to Delicate Arch. There were 40 mile an hour wind gusts at the top, and we felt like we were going to lose a child off the ledge. So we took a quick pic and left immediately. Unfortunately that was after the fact that the wind blew Chris's $300 glasses off his face. He said, "I was worried about the kids and holding onto them, I didn't think about my glasses!"

Here's a taste of our trip:
